Blessings of Life

Sometimes when life throws you a curve ball you either swing and miss, or find out that a curve ball is just the kind of pitch you know how to hit. Our curve ball came in the form of a medical diagnoses in November of 2010. We learned that I have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. What does this mean? Well, what it meant to us is the the chance of conceiving on our own was next to none.

At the time, we really didn't have a plan for getting pregnant other than getting me healthy again. I lost nearly 35 pounds in 1 year and then kept if off. This was a pretty big step on my part, mostly because I don't mind being a "Grande Chicka". But if it meant that later things would be easier, so be it!

For 1 year Jacob and I tried to conceive on our own only to have no success. Failed test after failed test, we decided to make an appointment with my Endocrinologist. She decided on a plan for us. Get on Clomid, go for an ultrasound, and if my ovaries showed signs of ovulation, get a shot of Ovidrel and get busy. (If you know what I'm saying.

This shot was the key? Seemed too easy.

Wouldn't you know it 24 hours later my test stick was positive. Holy crap I'm ovulating!

We had given the message to our family to pray for us. That weekend also happened to be our 2nd wedding anniversary from our Maui wedding. I think this was an omen that things where supposed to go our way. So on July 23rd (which was also my daddy's birthday) I took a test, only to be surprised that it was negative. Maura called me that day and I told her "well, it looks like we really suck at making babies, I guess we'll try again!"

A few weeks passed and the normal lady business that I thought was upon me never came. We decided on the morning of Saturday August 4, 2012 that we would take another test to see what was going on.

Positive! OMG what? Did I read that right??!!??

Ironically we where leaving for Costa Rica that next Sunday. What are the chances?

Dr. Trouts office sped up my appointments to give me a proper diagnosis, and to our surprise I was 6 weeks 1 day pregnant! P.S. there is only one little peanut in there, but it could have been more!

So here we are in Costa Rica on an AMAZE-BALLS vacation and I'm the one serving drinks to Maura, Ryan and Jake. I also missed out on the jungle zip line, but this little nugget is worth it!

I got to see the baby again and here its heartbeat on Friday August 24th.
This was 8 weeks 1 day.

And again later that day at the Endocrinologists office, where she graduated me to a regular OB.

So... baby Phillips is due April 4, 2013.

We are just so thankful and feel so blessed by the many many prayers that came our way!

Thank you God for this beautiful creation and the love that you have shown us. We are incredibly grateful!

Celestially Seasoned

My friend Joann and I decided on a date to the Celestial Seasonings plant in Boulder, CO.
I haven't been there in years. The last time was with Marilese and Libby, -that's how long ago!

We where surprised that the "ticket" for the tour was a pack of tea bags.
Erp~ haha!... tea bags.

The wait for the tour was almost better than the tour itself!
They offer 12 different tastings of tea (hot and cold) to get you started.

Here's Joann, soooo not ready for this photo!

It's like a museum of all things tea. Here's a dress made from tea pouches.

Even better than the dress are the original artworks.
I cant remember the names of ALL of them, but I'll do my best!

Bengal Spice... and this is the only one I remember!
Note that I did not cheat by reading the bottom of the photo!

Decaf China Pearl and yes I did cheat on this one.

I had a hard time deciding which one was my favorite.
Hands down, this was it.
I love when kittens are dressed up!~

The tour starts with a short movie...

...and then you get to wear this awesome hairnet.
Admit that you are jealous, and then we can get over it.

So... they don't let camera's inside the production floor. I'm not really sure why. Probably so no one steals their ideas or something. It took almost everything in me not to snap a photo while the tour guide wasn't looking. Anyway, we had a great time and came home with some awesome purchases!

After Boulder, we came back to Denver for lunch.
La Loma! Yum yum! I love you "Anniversary Plate"!!!!

Thanks Joann for an awesome date!

I'm stuck on you!

My mom, Angel and the kids are getting ready to leave Denver. It seems like their time here went really fast! Hopefully my mom can come back when Nate, Jen and Cyrus are here in August. Yes, the Maui Maydan's will be here in August to celebrate in the union of Brian & Tracey!!! Wahoo!!!!

Some of our fellow croquet-ers happened upon a new pizza place in town which is totally bomb diggity! We had taken my mom & family there once before, she suggested it for dinner last week. "Pizza Public", here we come! What a treat!

There's a stage for karaoke. Jonny was "The Guy", which is what he calls any guy who is on stage performing. He air guitars and says "Look mom, I'm the guy! I gotta take a break, be right back".

What a nerd!!!

Jonny and Triston entertained us. Sweet air guitar!

That weekend we had a special date with some of the Wishard ladies! I do have to disclose that I accidentally forgot to invite someone, and I SWEAR it was unintentional.

Apology #1: Sophia, Shavonne & Deanna - if you are reading this and think, WTF, she forgot us! I promise it was a true brain fart! Maura asked on the way to the place if you where coming and my mouth hit the floor~ I think I may have lost brain cells somewhere in my youth. Please forgive me???!!!???

I had been to this ceramics painting place before with Maura and Sheena.
What a way to celebrate Aunt Tricia's birthday.
 I love that lady!!!

From top left: Audrey, Laura, Diana, Tricia, Maura, Micaela & Jessie (me);
Bottom from left: Kiandra & Sheena!

Figuring out what you want to paint is extremely difficult,
especially when there is so much to choose from!!!!

Audrey, Kiandra & Jessie (me)

Sheena, Maura & Audrey

Aunt Dianna & my mom Laura

Micaela & Sheena decided to make glass pendants instead of paint ceramics,
I'm so excited to see how everything turned out!!

Kiandra painted a princess statue!

Aunt Tricia took this photo.
She asked me to be "serious", so here is my serious painting face!

Momma & the birthday girl, Aunt Tricia

Kiandra's princess.

My bowl! I'm so excited about this!!!

Check out these gnarly shards of glass!

Later that night we met the whole family for dinner at Las Delicias. What I love about my family most is that we aren't shy to be who we are, and we don't really care what other people think of us. We sat at a table for 20-25 in the back of the restaurant and played "telephone" while laughing hysterically.

I had a moment where I looked at Maura, sitting straight across from me and said "God, I just love our family! We might be crazy, but there is a lot of love here". "I know" she replied "We're pretty lucky!"

The next afternoon, Jake and I decided to go to lunch. I saw this in the window and had to take a photo. I rarely talk politics, mostly because I'm not too involved. I will however be voting for Mr. Obama again.

On Monday, I ended up going to Water World with Audrey, Jonny, Mom, Triston and Kiandra half day. We didn't get there until 3:45pm so there wasn't much time to get in any rides. Audrey and I did take Triston and Kiandra on a raft ride and over to the wave pool, but before we knew it, it was 5:30pm and the clouds where rolling in.

Here's Audrey leading Jonny by his noodle!

He decided to "Happy Gilmore" the noodle.

He is already such a comedian!~

Monday was also my Dad's 62nd birthday. I woke up that morning with my dad already on my mind. I asked Jake "If dad was here, what would be the birthday gift that we gave him". Jake replied "a wig". Smart ass!

Honestly, I don't know how to answer that question either. With time people change, or at least I can say I've changed. One year you might be into collecting memorabilia, then the next something else. I am constantly wondering what kind of person my dad would be two and a half years later. For the most part I think he would still be that same old guy. Buying Maui Jim's by the dozen and organizing family time. I think if anything- we would be the ones changing, and he would be the one guiding and embracing, while getting a bit more gray haired. He was such a loving and giving person.

He deserved better... he was too good for cancer.

To my daddy, Happy happy birthday! I hope the spirit world is awesome! Come visit me in a dream sometime soon, because I really miss you. A glimpse of your face can always get me through tough times!

Apology #2 in this blog is to Cheryl. I'm really really sorry that we didn't get to have dinner on Monday night for dad's birthday. I guess somehow our lines got crossed. I don't want you to think that in any way you, or dad's birthday was unimportant to us. But I am truly sorry that we may have hurt your feelings. I love you!!

To reflect on things here and past... Sometimes pieces fall apart. Sometimes people forget people. Sometimes plans fall through. Often times when it rains... it pours.

But there is always love.

No matter how often we see you, talk to you or think of you. Know that we love you.

And that my friend, is a promise!

Dear Decade of Love...

I must confess that it has been 94 days since my last post. The idea of having this blog was so that I could keep current with our life. There is still hope for us yet! One day when our children are old enough to get a glimpse of what life was like before mom and dad had kids, I hope they still think we are this cool!

Since April, much has changed. Not only are we in a different season, but I think a different perspective on the world we are living in. It was somewhat forced into place, but Jake and I have finally had the time to appreciate "the little things" that being married has to offer. Everyday I think we love each other just a little bit more, and everyday I'm reminded of how lucky I am.

I got a new haircut!

One of my most favorite people on the planet
celebrates her birthday on April Fools Day.

Spring was so beautiful this year, so to celebrate her 30th, Maura and I walked the grounds of the Denver Botanic Gardens and relished in the colorful new life that the gardens had to offer. What a day!

Jacob just bought me a new iPhone.
Maura and I where testing out by modeling in our surroundings.

Our bush! Oh how we missed you! You've grown so big!

My beautiful purple Maura!

A few weeks later Audrey had a brilliant plan.
Let's do a family night and go see the Nuggets play!

It was Jonny's first NBA game. Every time the announcer would say "Nuggets, time out" Jonny would look at us funny. Finally he said "The Nuggets are on time out because they are bad?" Needless to say we had an entire section of people laughing!

We saw Brian & Tracey at the game!
Can you spot them?

Every year during the summer we get Wicket shaved.
Its for her own good really, but seeing her all skinny makes us laugh!

Before

...and after!

Izzy doesn't like it when Wic gets buzzed. She growls at her.
We think its because she doesn't recognize her... or something.

Another birthday in April, is our dear sweet friend Sara.
She hosted a kick ball party at the park.
Jonny and I decided to play some tee ball to warm up!

After that, Audrey and I had an important task.
Go through the rest of Daddy's stuff.
We dressed up in everything we could!

Gloves, fanny pack & a didgeridoo.

The most ridiculous disguise ever!

As April ended, Jacob was busy gearing up for finals.

The girls really like it when he plays the piano!

With all of dad's items that we didnt keep,
we boxed up for a future yard sale.

The kitty displayed below, although adorable, is not for sale.

Before the yard sale, Audrey and I had a very important date...

...a date with another decade. The 80's!
Audrey scored tickets to Totally Tennyson!

Like totally Maydan-o-rama!

This is Audrey's boyfriend Petey! He escorted us through the "Flock of Seagulls".

This is me the next morning. Way too much fun.

I spent that day (Saturday) gardening.
I've dubbed this area the "John Maydan and MCA Memorial Garden".

Izzy likes to hang out with me in the yard.

Sunday was not only "Cinco de Mayo" but also our Yard Sale!!
Joshua helped Audrey make signs.

In the end, we thought up this dream machine poster.
Tell me you wouldn't visit this yard sale!

Our yard sale was blessed by this butterfly.

The weekend after the yard sale, Jake and I decided to "party" at home.
We recently discovered we both love Bourbon.
The party lasted two drinks, haha, one for me, and one for Jake!

We also went to Kelley's graduation party.
She is now Dr. Kelley Von Scoyck, PhD in Veterinary Sciences!!!!

Here's Schuyler at the BBQ. He's a total grill master!

Since the party was in Golden, CO we decided to pay a visit to ATO.
It still looks the same!

Jake's birthday is just around the corner, but before the celebration of my
lovey-loves birthday, we have to celebrate Mothers Day!

Jonny and I took Audrey to breakfast.

After we juiced up with energy, we spent it all at "Big Time".
Yesssssss!!!!!

Audrey flying over Jonny.

We had a blast!

Ok, now we can celebrate Jake!
He was home on his birthday, so I sent him a pizza for lunch!

Later that night, Audrey and Jonny met us for dinner.

I love me some Jake!

The next day, Jake and I went to the driving range.

Check out my sweet skillz!

The end of May is reserved for my main man Cyrus. He turned 4!
We sent him boxes of Batman stuff...

...but he wasn't too excited about it. Not!

Penny & Kevin called us up for a date night too!

We went to Amato's Ale House to watch the Solar Eclipse.

Here is another random pic, of a date we went on with our friend Joshua to the Museum of Contemporary Art. We made these butterflies for the wall. Can you tell which one is mine? Of course its the yellow one!

Random pic number 2 is me & my mother in law Penny, going through Jake's grandma's stuff. They moved Grandma into a home and her apartment had to be cleaned out. I really liked this fan :o)

On Memorial Day Audrey had to work, so Jonathan spent the day with Auntie!

He helped me water all the plants in my garden,
we had a picnic with Maura and cousin Josh in a tent in the backyard...

... we watched "Rango" and he took a nap...

... and we got Uncle Jacobob to blow bubbles when he got home from work!

We even ate chocolate popsicle's and had chocolate mustaches!

May was over and it seemed too quick. As June starts, it brings lots of dates! One being Fathers Day! I think of my dad everyday, but on holiday's I project extra super duper love to him in the spirit world.

We went to dinner one night with Jake's mom Tina. This was the artwork on the wall of the lobby. Does this really go hand in hand with Dad's? I felt a little bit dirty, and also contemplated stealing the cowboy for Maura. (Now I wish I did!)

After dinner we went back to Tina's house to visit Blackie.
This fall she will be 26 years old!
That's like 114 in cat years!

One night Jake came into the bedroom while I was trying to go to sleep. "I just got a text from Boyd asking if we want to go the the Mile High Comics open house before Comic Con. Do you want to go?"

Oh hell yeah!

I was singing "This is how we do it" through the entire warehouse.
We ended up buying a couple of Star Wars Droid comics, some Dark Side Comics,
and the best of all, I got two new Tank Girl books. Mutha' flippin' sweet!

If you ever want to charm me, comics are the way to my heart!

That night I had the CRAZIEST dream about my dad. He's been heavy on my mind, and I think this was his way of communicating with me. In my dream he lead me to these decks of cards and flipped through them. He said to me, that I was the only one allowed to see what was on the card.

I realized that morning, that when Audrey and I went through his stuff, that I had taken a wooden card holder box that had two decks already in it. I jumped out of bed and ran to the living room. I flipped through the first card as much as I could remember through the deck. It was the Ace of Spades, and my mouth dropped when I saw the card. They I flipped through the second deck and the first card flipped was the Ace of Hearts.

I think my dad was saying " I love you Queen Jessabee!"
I am faithful to the belief that dreams are the gift of prophecy.

That night I weeded the garden and pulled these beauties out for a bouquet.
Aren't they sublime!?!

Jacob and I are still playing croquet from April to September with the NSCC.
I started blogging about the parks, mostly because the ambiance of this park.

"North Side Park" in Commerce City. Its a graffiti park.

Jake's dad Kevin wasn't feeling so awesome on Fathers Day, so we postponed our date until the next weekend. "What do you want to do?" I asked Kevin "Build something" he replied!

So we built some chairs for his porch!

They invited Cheryl over too! Kevin said "Staining isn't for sissies"
"Well good thing I'm no sissy!" said Cheryl

The finished product.

At work, I'm in charge of coordinating the birthday parties.
For June, I decided on a "build your own sundae" bar.

Its was incredible!

After work we headed over to Audrey's to see what they where doing.

My mom set the kids up with fishing poles for the pool.

Trying to catch the little hooks was actually pretty fun!

Except for when all you catch is a leaf!

Looks at my new hat! Cute! For our Costa Rica trip in August!

Ahh... July. Hot as heck! We took our annual trip to Olde Glory.

Since the fire danger was really high this year, and half of Colorado has already burnt to the ground, we decided on sparklers only.

It was tempting though!

Audrey and Jonny surprised me one night!
They walked over from their side of the gulch to say Hello!

Jake and I don't really have any kid friendly toys yet,
so we gave Jonny some bubble wrap to pop.
This was his first time!!!

Recently, Jake and I have just been trying to relax.
I went one morning to get a pedi and ended up with the best toe's I've EVER seen!

That night we met the Title America people for a reunion at the Tavern Downtown.
Little Logan decided he loves me! I think I love him too!!

Jake and I are ready to have our own family.
I think are kids are going to be wicked cute!

We met my mom, Angel and the kids for fro-yo one night.
She made us this.
I look like Peppermint Patty and Jake doesn't have eyeballs, lol!

We have been trying to get as much time with them as we can.
They leave back to Tucson in a few weeks.

My mom is so cool sometimes!

Nerd alert!

Last but not least, Jen sent us some homemade kick ass coconut candy!
I cant get enough!

I hope that I can keep up with this blog a little better, but it sure is easier said than done. Stay tuned for our Costa Rica trip in August!!!
